What is Electrostatic Powder Coating?

Electrostatic powder coating is the process of coating products with powder paint without using solvents, and preparing them for the market without the need for drying time. During this process, the powder paint is pulverized through a spray gun with the help of air flow. The statically charged powder paint is applied evenly and smoothly to the surface to be coated. Any excess powder is recovered by the booth’s recovery technology and reused, providing an economic advantage.

The product, coated with powder paint, is then subjected to a heat treatment process in a curing oven. As the powder is exposed to high temperatures, it becomes fluid and chemically adheres to the surface, forming a durable coating.

What is Powder Coating?

Powder coating is a coating process in which products are painted and prepared for market without using solvents. During this process, the powder coating is pulverized through a spray gun with the help of an air flow. The static electrical charge applied to the powder coating evenly and smoothly coats the area to be applied. Excess powder coating is then removed from the air and recycled for further use by the technology of recovery within the booth. This recovery technology provides an economic advantage.

The product coated with powder coating is then subjected to heat treatment by being placed in a baking oven. The powder coating, exposed to high temperatures, becomes fluid and adheres to the applied area through chemical hardening.

Efficiency of Powder Coating Technique

As mentioned above, excess powder coating is recovered through the technology of recovery, providing nearly 100% efficiency. Compared to wet paint application, it offers a material efficiency ranging from 1/2 to 1/3 on average.

Due to its structure, powder coating is very suitable for automatic application with three significant advantages it provides:

  • The electrostatic method offers a perfect application by covering the applied area homogeneously through the wrap effect.
  • It is easy to reach areas that pose difficulties for application, such as corners and recesses.
  • The process is simplified as it does not drip during application.

Advantages of Powder Coating

The Thixotropic properties of the powder coating film provide significant advantages in homogeneous spreading and hardening. This makes the coating more durable against external factors such as rust, wear, and physical problems.

Environmental Protection

Powder coating is an environmentally friendly application as it does not contain evaporating organic matter. In this respect, compared to normal painting methods, it offers significant advantages in terms of waste management, chimney cleaning, storage, and worker health.

Business Economics

As the loss of paint during the application is very low, it provides significant contributions to business economics.

  • Excess powder coating sprayed is recovered by the suction technology.
  • There is no need for primer painting.
  • Powder coating is used directly as received from the manufacturer, without the need to be mixed with solvents or other chemicals.
